An ongoing experiment at the cutting edge of transmedia, bottom-up tech, and neighborhood storytelling. Each design brings a distinct vision to engage the public, preserve local culture, and tie to sustainable business.
Origins: Back in 2013 we purchased 14 old phones on eBay. Over the following semester, we alternated sites -- half in Leimert Park at KAOS Networks, and half at the USC Annenberg Innovation Lab. In that first year, three teams developed pitch videos, hosted a "rap the phone" event, conducted interviews with businesses and more.
Current prototypes include Sankofa Red, and a game that was featured in IndieCade.
